Aviculturalist Tour of Belgium – 8th-11th Sept. 23

There are a few spaces left on the Society’s three-day visit to see Belgian zoos and bird collections, including a whole day at Pairi Daiza, elected the “Best Zoo in Europe”‘. For details of dates and itinerary.

Day One

Departure from your local pick-up point for the journey to Dover and your Tunnel crossing to Calais. Then travel onwards to your hotel in Belgium for a three-night stay at the Hotel Horizon Ath Lessines on a Half Board basis.

Day Two

Today we leave our hotel and travel to the Pairi Daiza for the day.
Elected “Best Zoo in Europe” on several occasions and certified three stars in the Michelin Green Guide, Pairi Daiza takes you on a journey across five continents to meet more than 7,000 animals To visit Pairi Daiza is to go on a journey. Thanks to the authentic buildings, the numerous plantations, the semi-precious minerals and of course, the animals, you dive into the four corners of our beautiful planet.

Giant pandas, elephants, polar bears, rhinos, walruses, gorillas, orangutans, fish, rare birds, … More than 700 extraordinary species await you in unique and authentic territories. A Garden of the Worlds to discover in a day in the heart of the territories of 9 different species. We have our lunch at leisure here.

Day Three

Today we travel into Antwerp and spend the morning in the zoo there. Walk among the chimpanzees and the gorillas in the Valley of the Great Apes. From there you can stroll to the Buffalo Savannah, where Cape
Buffalo and birds live in harmony. Don’t forget to check out the Skywalk where you can enjoy a stunning panoramic view over the historical garden and where you can get up close to the small wallabies. Other must-sees include the koalas, the reef aquarium and the Butterfly Garden. We have our lunch here.

In the afternoon we visit Planckendael Zoo, located in the grounds of Planckendael Castle in the village district of Muizen, in Mechelen, Belgium. In 1956 the Royal Zoological Society of Antwerp bought the Planckendael
estate in order to acquire a larger space for animals than what they owned: the city zoo in Antwerp.

Day Four

Today we travel to Overpelt to view the Private Collection of Noel Hendrix We have lunch and then travel on to Mr Moomens collection in Kortenacken. We then travel to the Channel for our crossing and a late return home.

your NHS Covid Pass with you at all times.

PRICE BASED ON 30 PASSENGERS TRAVELLING

  • £529 per person based on passengers sharing a twin or double room.
  • £130 Single Room Supplement

This price depends on a minimum of 30 paying passengers. If less than 30 passengers travel this price may be subject to change.
