The first of a series of regional summer social meetings hosted by The Avicultural Society is to be held in Somerset at Hestercombe Gardens [www.hestercombe.com] on Sunday 17th July 2022. Hestercombe has 50 acres of gardens, although no birds, and is situated 3 miles north of Taunton, just 15 minutes off Junction 25 of the M5.
The gardens are open from 10.00 am and have both a cafe and restaurant on site. As well as the gardens there is a contemporary art gallery in Hestercombe House together with a gallery shop, a second-hand bookshop and a plant sales area.
The afternoon event will start at 2.15 and will include a series of short presentations by members of the society describing an aspect of their specialist interest. The cost will be £15.00/ head including all-day entry to the gardens, lectures and a buffet-style afternoon tea in Hestercombe’s Bampfylde Hall with sandwiches, cakes and savouries, freshly baked scones, with strawberry jam and Somerset clotted cream, all handmade at Hestercombe.
