Based on a talk given by the author, a veterinary surgeon, to the International Touraco Society. Yersiniosis or pseudotuberculosis, iron storage disease and aspergillosis are among the diseases and other causes of touraco deaths dealt with, followed by advice on how best these are avoided.

LAST OF THE GREAT COLLECTORS by Malcolm Ellis
Fred Shaw Mayer, who died in 1989, 25 days short of his 90th birthday, spent most of his life in New Guinea. Firstly collecting bird skins for Lord Rothschild's museum and live birds for London Zoo and a number of prominent aviculturists, before later taking charge of Sir Edward Hallstrom's magnificent collection of birds of paradise and then the Baiyer River Sanctuary.

THE OMEI SHAN LIOCICHLA Liocichia omeinsis by Nigel Hewston
This paper, reproduced from Proceedings of the Passerine & Pigeon Symposium, describes this medium-sized babbler which is endemic to China, its habitat, range and status in the wild, and housing, feeding and breeding in captivity. It is illustrated by a colour photo of the species.

THE MOULTING CYCLE OF THE AFRICAN JACANA Actophilornis africanus IN AVICULTURE by Greg Bockheim
The author's observations on how the jacanas at Disney's Animal Kingdom, Florida, shed all their flight and tail feathers over a period of 48-72 hours, and are rendered flightless for some 20 days. Colour photos illustrate the growth rate of the new flight feathers.
